Meet Dom
I’m Dom Bortruex, a librarian and systems thinker with more than ten years of experience in academic libraries, higher education, and leadership. I focus on structure, connection, and stewardship. These values shape how I design systems, support communities, and empower organizations to acheive their goals.
My Story
My career has evolved at the intersection of people, systems, and information. Rooted in the humanities, social sciences, and information science, I studied how knowledge is created, organized, and shared. My early work as a stage manager and assistant to a theater professor taught me coordination, timing, and communication. Those skills later carried into managing presentation, sound, and light systems at churches and theaters, where I learned how technical systems can strengthen human connection and community.

From there, my path led into libraries, where I advanced from cataloging to information systems to large-scale acquisitions. At American University, I managed projects that required both technical precision and cross-department collaboration. At Yale, I oversaw acquisitions and receiving workflows that balanced budgets, metadata, and relationships with vendors and campus partners. Along the way, I taught graduate courses and led national workshops, deepening my commitment to mentorship and shared learning.

Beyond my professional roles, I have remained deeply engaged in my communities. I have supported churches through technology and organization, and I served for several years as a Precinct Captain for the DC Board of Elections. In every setting, I focus on connecting people and systems to make information more accessible, technology more human, and communities more cohesive.
